I am training hard to step in the ring in an official amateur boxing match for the annual "Battle of the Barristers" charity event. This fight is about more than just boxing. Our mission is to raise funds for veterans through Fisher House Foundation & the Semper Fi Fund, and to raise funds for kids in need of a safe after-school environment via Gleason’s Give A Kid A Dream.

Let me tell you a bit more about these great causes:

The Fisher House Foundation builds comfort homes, located at military and VA medical centers around the world, where military & veteran families can stay free of charge while a loved one is in the hospital. Through Fisher Houses, military and veteran families can focus on the health of their loved one without having to worry about where they will sleep or how they will afford to remain nearby. Fisher House Foundation also uses donated frequent flyer miles to bring family members to the bedside of injured service members and donated hotel points to allow family members to stay at hotels near medical centers without charge. 

The Semper Fi Fund is dedicated to providing immediate medical and financial assistance, resources, individualized programming, and lifetime support to wounded, critically ill, and catastrophically injured members of all branches of the U.S. military in order to help them recover, heal from their injuries and trauma, and transition back into their communities. Semper Fi also provides education and career assistance, veteran to veteran mentoring, various sports programs, canine companionship programs, counseling, and specialized assistance and support for those suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injury. 

Lastly, Gleason’s Give A Kid A Dream program provides at-risk youth a voice and a second chance. These kids are given the opportunity to work, train in boxing and other sports, study, and develop long-lasting relationships in a safe environment. Along with providing athletic training and mentorship, this charity also provides the youth with supplies, educational trips, access to tutors and social workers, and programs that teach critical life skills and foster strong morals and values, giving these kids the opportunity to transcend their difficult circumstance.
